What is CAPS?
The Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation program. Helping people remain in the comfort of their homes as long as they would like.
The NAHB Seniors Housing Council developed this program to provide comprehensive, practical, market-specific information about working with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for aging in place.
An AARP survey says 80% of seniors prefer to remain in their homes.
Brown Construction has a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist on staff who is specifically qualified to assist mature adults to "age in place."
What is Aging in Place?
In plain English, aging in place means:
- Remaining in one's home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level.
- The pleasure of living in a familiar environment throughout one's maturing years.
- The ability to enjoy the familiar daily rituals and the special events that enrich our lives.
- The reassurance of being able to call a house a "home" for a lifetime.
The mission of Brown Construction's Accessible Living Division is to provide older adults with the opportunity to age in place with dignity and to help seniors maintain their independence.
One of our greatest fears as we grow older is that at some point we may have to leave our homes due to challenges that will come with reaching, bending, standing, sitting or stepping up and down.
Typical Changes to a Home Are:
- Remodel Bathroom
- Install bars to assist in bathroom & laundry room
- Installation of zero threshold showers
- Remodel kitchen
- Widening doorways & hallways for wheelchair use
- Replace door knobs with levers
- Lower light switches
- Enhance lighting
- Install accessible entrance doors
Brown Construction can make it easier to overcome these challenges. Living comfortably with just a few changes will ensure that the aging adult can stay longer in the home they love.
